Neutrog Proudly Sponsors a National Monument
07.02.2011
Neutrog has recently sponsored fertiliser to a very special site of historical and botanical importance in South Africa.
The beautiful Arderne Gardens located in Claremont, Cape Town have existed for over a century, having been first established in 1845. The gardens formed part of the home of Ralph Henry Arderne, a successful timber merchant from England. The homestead passed through the family until the early 1920’s, when plans formed for the ground to be divided into smaller plots. The gardens, well-developed and beautiful by now, were saved from being divided by 2 men very passionate about its preservation. A representative from the Cape Town municipality convinced the powers-that-be to buy the land, in order to save it from division and it was then maintained for 27 years by a truly dedicated curator.
The non-profit group Friends of the Arderne Gardens (FOTAG) was formed in 2004 to honour the work of these pioneer green thumbs and to ensure the gardens remained in a healthy and glorious state for members of the public to enjoy. The gardens have been declared a National Monument and have also identified 6 ‘Champion Trees’ which are recognised nationally and are protected.
The gardens provide a much needed green-belt within the urban area of Claremont - there are winding paths stroll along, beautiful green grass to lay upon - in general the gardens are the perfect place to enjoy nature and get closer to some amazing examples of the country’s biodiversity.
In line with Neutrog’s philosophy of being ‘community-spirited’ we will be donating Bounce Back to FOTAG to help them maintain the grounds and to supply their plants with optimal nutrition.
For more information about the Arderne Gardens visit their website, or better yet…visit the actual garden itself – 222 Main Road, Claremont.
