Feeding the Greenpop Treevolution!
31.12.2011
Greenpop is a simple and fun idea in celebration of greening and bringing South Africans together. The first treemendous goal was to get 1000 trees planted in under-greened schools and crèches in the Cape Flats in one significant month, September 2010, Arbour Month. To do this, the team at Greenpop had to get creative! They pooled their resources and skills, mobilised keen Capetonians to volunteer, came up with some crazy activations to spread awareness, and began planting glorious trees. This passion and horsepower, however, was not enough. The team was serious about planting trees properly and needed expert partners.
Right for the very beginning, Neutrog came on board with an offer to feed all the Greenpop trees with their organic fertiliser Rapid Raiser! With this amazing sponsorship, wonderful volunteers and community members, the goal of planting 1000 trees in one month was achieved!
As a result of all the planting, the team at Greenpop realised the huge need for trees and beautification in the Cape Flats and townships areas around Cape Town. The calls from schools requesting trees were flowing in and so were calls from companies and individuals wanting to get involved, donate trees or volunteer for planting.
It was evident that Greenpop just could not stop – the treevolution had begun!
Since September 2010, 2000 trees have gone into the ground, organically fertilised by Neutrog. Over 60 beneficiary schools and centres have received trees and 30 000 people are already enjoying their green beauty – imagine the impact a few years time!
Neutrog has seen the huge benefit that trees bring to communities and has decided to continue sponsoring Greenpop and feeding trees in 2011. Exciting planting and environmental education plans are in place for next year and both Neutrog and Greenpop look forward to dirty hands and a happy, green 2011.
Join the Treevolution – everyone is invited!
